The Roxy The Vibrators January 77 contract
EXCERPT FROM THE ROXY OUR STORY Thursday, January 27th.
The Vibrators £50/Outsiders £10
Andrew’s Diary: Another panic day, Susan doesn’t have a car any more so getting
drink stock is a big problem. We decided to hire a car for the day as Susan needs
to be at studios in Floral Hall in Covent Garden market, just round the corner
from Roxy, for photo shoot with Miss London magazine. I turn up at club and
meet Barry. We waited for Ralph, a friend of Barry’s who was trying to borrow
some money for us to stock the empty bar, but no luck – no cash. I went to the
bank and managed somehow to get out £90, shot off to the cash and carry with
Barry in Ralph’s car to buy stock. Went on to Holborn Police Station to make
statement about robbery, not interested at all despite good descriptions of robbers. Hmm… makes you wonder if they were part of it all. Threatened to arrest
us if we didn’t calm down; punk prejudice rools ok. Maybe the two pink stripes in
hair and black clothes don’t send the right image. It turned out, many years later,
they were put into my hair by Toni & Guy, who had their first shop in Streatham
where we lived. Just thought I would mention that – didn’t they do well.
